Abstract

NAD(P)H:Quinone Oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) is an important carcinogen detoxifying enzyme. NQO1 gene C609T polymorphism reduces the detoxifying capability of enzyme and is known to be associated with predisposition for different types of cancers. Previous case -control studies investigating the association between NQO1 polymorphism and urothelial cancer (UC) have yielded inconsistent results. Hence, authors were conducted present meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship of NQO1 C609T polymorphism with risk of urothelial cancer. Pub med, the Google Scholar, Springer Link and Elsevier electronic databases were searched for selection of case control studies, published upto July, 11, 2024. Meta-analysis was performed using MetaDiSc (version 1.4) statistical software. Odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were calculated as association measure. Significant association between NQO1 C609T polymorphism and UC was found in this meta-analysis (for T vs. C: OR = 3.40; 95% CI: 2.1 to 5.41; p=0. 000). Present meta-analysis, reported NQO1 C609T polymorphism is a risk factor for UC.
