Need of Open Access …?
In the recent years, scholarly research is primarily available through a traditional, Subscription based Model (nothing but Green Open access). Under this system, anyone interested in reading an article will pay for the publisher to access the content. And anyone who wants to make use, reuse or download the scientific content has to take permission from the publisher with additional charge.
In the current digital world, physical delivery of printed copies (Subscription Model) of the journal will not make much sense; whereas upcoming publishers are entirely adapted to digital online world.
Open Access Movement
In the Early 2000s, the beginning of open access movement issued with several declarations
- the Budapest Open Access Initiative (2002),
- the Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (2003), and
- the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities (2003)
